Evelyns Creative Center will be a children's space in the new Texas County Library in Houston that is planned to be built in 2024. This children’s space will include a mural with a bug’s eye view of local plants and animal life, bug boards, a craft area with storage to make bug houses for “Hungry Caterpillars”, and easy comfy seating. The goal is for children and adults alike to be inspired by art and the miraculous beauty of nature that up close observation can create.
The creative center will be located in the new Texas County Library. The new library will be located on top of the storm shelter at First and Pine streets in Houston.

Evelyn Dieckhaus is the granddaughter of Joe and Kathy Richardson. She visited Houston each summer for "Kamp Houston" with her sister and cousins. Bugs were collected, turtle houses built, t-shirts tie dyed, fish caught and books checked out from the Texas County Library. Evelyn planned to grow up to be an occupational therapist and work with special needs children.
9-year-old Evelyn lost her earthly life Monday, March 27, 2023 along with classmates Wiliam, Hallie and three faculty members in the Nashville school shooting. Evelyn's Creative Center is inspired by this amazing girl. Evelyn was a force of love and we want this Creative Center to be a force of love.
